When someone calls you a SOB offline, you’d rightfully get defensive and start fuming. But in the world of blogging, being called a SOB is a complement, especially when it comes from SOBCon co-coordinator Liz Strauss as it stands for “Successful and Outstanding Blogger.” (I should know; I’ve been given the SOB award).
SOBCon is the Successful Online Business Conference. Per the conference website: “SOBCon is the think tank of the social web where some of the best minds in the Internet space gather to present models, discuss insights, and determine best practices. The conference stands for the same values of community, good ideas, and deep trust that has developed among people who invested thoughts, feelings, and dreams in each other.”
Harnessing your leadership qualities within a community. Stepping outside of your comfort zone in order to pursue your goals. Acting on growing your brands and businesses rather than just thinking about it. This is what SOBCon is about.
Here is what SOBCon co-coordinator Terry Starbucker had to share in an interview about SOBCon:
What makes this conference unique?
It’s a conference that fully leverages the transformative power of social media to educate, challenge, and inspire attendees to build a successful business.
What are some of the highlights or features of this conference?
We limit our attendance to 150 in order to foster a true collaborative learning environment. We use a “Masterminds” concept, where groups of 5 or 6 are given ample time to work together throughout the day, using the speaker content to spark new ideas, strategies, and tactics.
Does this conference have different learning tracks or focuses?
Typically we feature 5 or 6 learning tracks, which consist of 20-30 minutes of speaker content, followed by a 35-45 minute Mastermind session. These tracks take the attendee through the different stages of business development, from business plans to final execution.
If you could share your top 3 tips for conference newbies, what would they be?
- To maximize your benefit, make sure your experience is not just “one way” – that is, just listening to presentations. ENGAGE with your fellow attendees.
- Take full advantage of all networking opportunities – more partnerships are built in the lounge than any other place!
- Skip the events with thousands of attendees, and focus on smaller scale opportunities like SOBCon – your return on investment will be much higher.
